THE PLANET OF RAGNAROKK

Geology and Atmosphere

Ragnarokk is a planet located to the south eastern part of the Maelstrom Sector, quite close to the Maelstrom itself. – As the fifth planet from it’s sun, a small red dwarf, the planet is the only habitable planet within it’s system of 9 heavenly bodies.

Ragnarokk is slightly smaller than Terra, with a night / day cycle of 18 Terran hours and a year of 333 standard Terran days.
It is exceptionally warm and often sees the uproar of dust and sandstorms that come in strengths strong enough to rip skin and flesh from unprotected individuals in less than a minute.

The planet has only one notable collection of water.
Located to the west and stretching through the planets equator, this small sea consists of salty water polluted by the many toxic elements in the planet’s atmosphere.
The toxic pollutants combined with the ground soil and the redish orange sky, gives the water a visage and reflection that could remind one of old, diluted blood.

The sea stretches into the planets deep underground caves where it becomes cooler and seeps through the ground to be filtered out in select areas under the Hive Cities themselves.
This inner sea is often covered in a thick haze of fog and is considered to be one of the cooler places on the planet, often frequented by nomadic tribes of outcasts.

It is a notable feature of this area that a mushroom cloud will often stretch up from the sea to engulf the area in dark and thunderous cover. – In fact all clouds on the planet stem from either this region or from the high factory pipes of the vast Hive cities that spew forth noxious gasses.

These clouds are the planet’s only real cooling factor aside from its harsh winds, and besides their violent thunderous nature and acidic downpour, the sight of these black and purple clouds against the backdrop of the deep orange sky is usually a welcome one. – Especially at night when they block out the constant swirling lights of the night sky that reflect the nearby Maelstrom rift and hampers the sleep of those unfortunate enough not to have access to blinds.

The planet’s body is mostly composed of Ash wastes and volcanically active areas on unstable tectonic plates, but there are more hospitable regions to.

These regions see less earthquakes and no volcanic activity, they are cooler than most of the planet and they are for the most part overrun by Hive Cities.

Some of the richer Hive Cities even have grand plastisteel and glass-steel domes housing lush vegetation for the pleasures of the richer inhabitants of the planet.

Finally, aside from small areas on the planet’s north and south poles, the planet has three mountains high and cold enough to hold snow.
– These areas are not often frequented though, due to their placement and high altitude.
