STORY SO FAR
The year is
007.M42 and it has been quite some time since Medusa V.
Still, War is a part of every-day life on the Eastern frontier
of the Imperiums largest region; the Ultima Segmentum,
Here is Enigma
42. – A planet within the officially uncharted E42 system.
To most, Enigma 42 would seem nothing more than a orb filled
with ice, snow and unrelentless, unforgiving, arctic cold. –
A frigid death-world!
But the planet is home to more than ice...
Some, two decades
ago, the Rogue Trader "Genesis" discovered the planet
and charted an as of yet unexplained phenomenon.
The Jungle Vale of Genesis, taking its name after the Rogue
Trader ship that discovered it.
It is a mystery
how this crater-like valley stays warm in the ice and snow that
surrounds it, but the Vale is warm and luscious; filled with
a tropical jungle and much indigenous life.
But the plants,
insects and animals living here are not the only life to be
found, for after the Rogue Trader reported back its findings,
it was silenced by the Inquisition, and a Magos Biologis team
was secretly sent to E42.
Under the radical
Inquisitor Faynor, the place was used as the base of a secret
Magos Biologis research facility specialising in xenology.
Dedicated to research the Vale and its life forms, the Biologis
team soon found that the Vale sits upon a vast network of volcanic
tunnels, filling the entire substructure of the Vale with hot
gasses that keeps the vale warm, green and filled with life.
The Volcanic
activity of tunnels that stretch deep into the planet’s
core, keep the Vale like a gigantic Terrarium with jungles in
the center and pine trees near the huge, icy glacier walls that
encompass the Vale and form tiny waterfalls that feed the place
with water and life.
High over the
walls of ice and snow, where hot air meets cold, one can often
find a thick layer of clouds that lay across the Vale like a
warm concealing quilt.
In this concealing
environment, the Magos Biologis has continued its secret research,
expanding their efforts to include several xenos species kept
in captivity in their jungle-based research-city; or in underground
chambers locked off from the rest of the complex.
During the Medusa
V incident, teams from the E42 Biologis unit captured and abducted
several Tyranid specimen that where later transported to E42,
where they where locked in controlled research environments
deep beneath the surface of the Vale.
Securely locked
away, the Magos could research their behaviour and growth patterns
away from the Hive Mind, and found that the Tyranids where soon
evolving and growing their own Hive Queen.
Under guidance of the Hive Queen, the Tyranids transformed their
tunnel system into a fully fledged Hive, but the Magos Bilogis
Tech Priests where able to control their growth-rate through
feeding and gassing routines.
Then disaster struck!
Less than two
weeks ago, a Ork Hulk crashed in the snowy fields above the
Vale, partly collapsing one of the glacier walls and sliding
full force into the Vale’s Jungle filled environment.
The Massive weight of the Hulk cracked the containment tunnels
open and the Tyranids where set free.
The Beast faced
down the Devourer and in the middle of the mighty battle stood
a small Imperial defence force of Imperial Guardsmen trying
to get the problem under control.
It was during
this Mayhem that the local Astropath sent a lonely plea for
help; but she was quickly silenced by her master; Faynor.
The ancient Inquisitor had already activated his contingency
plan to escape the Vale and deliver cyclonic Torpedoes to the
place; but unknown to him, the seemingly random Ork crash was
truly ORKestrated by the Forces of Chaos and the Inquisitor
soon found his own ship decimated by these same forces.
In the weeks
since then, a desperate battle has been fought by the Imperial
defenders and the fleeting forms of Eldar who whistle past in
the concealing mass of the Jungle, while trying to hinder a
hidden threat deep beneath the planet from awakening.
Then, Drop Pods
and Thunderhawks came screaming through the Planet’s Atmosphere
and the forces involved soon found themselves in the Battle
of a Lifetime!
It is
thE 42’nd Milennium
And there is only
WAR!
